PANAJI: Former Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Uday Madkaikar has charged current Mayor Rohit Monserrate of bulldozing every agenda of the corporation.
Madkaikar also charged Monserrate of being hand in gloves with the builder lobby.
“National Theatre issue is pending since 2006. They want settle with the lease owner. The Mayor is is hand in gloves with the builder lobby.” said Madkaikar.
He further said that it was discussed of conducting a hearing and come at a conclusion but the Mayor just want to bulldoze and sell the property.
“This is family raj politics, he has destroyed Taleigao and now is in process of finishing off Panaji. Mayor is not ready to debate,” he added.
Madkaikar claimed that this was the first Mayor in the history of CCP who wants to bypass all agenda.
“People of Panaji should wake up and not run after goodies. There is still time. Why is the Mayor fearing some councillor. When his father and mother are MLA’S,” he said.
The CCP had initiated proceedings to take possession of one of the oldest buildings in the capital – National Theatre – located on its property. The move came after based on legal opinion that the lease agreement of 30 years with the Rao & Company expired in 2005. Once with CCP, the land will be used for multi-storey parking.
