OLD GOA: Old Goa Police have registered an unnatural death case following the death of a 48-year-old man who was undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, after allegedly consuming pesticide.
Police said they received a wireless message from GMC at around 6.17 pm on August 4 informing them that Chandrashekhar Usapkar, a resident of Talap Wada, Cumbharjua, Marcel, had died while undergoing treatment in Ward No. 100.
Based on the information, Old Goa Police registered Unnatural Death (U.D.) No. 55/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
During the inquiry, police found that Usapkar was initially admitted to GMC on July 21, 2026, and was discharged against medical advice on July 28. He was later readmitted to the hospital and continued treatment in Ward No. 100.
Preliminary inquiry with family members revealed that the deceased had allegedly consumed pesticide, following which he was admitted to GMC for treatment.
Police said the body has been preserved at the GMC Morgue for further medico-legal formalities. No foul play is suspected at this stage.
Further inquiry is being conducted by PSI Saiesh Bhonsle of Old Goa Police Station.
