BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police have booked a 58-year-old man for allegedly accepting bets from members of the public at an open place near the Latambarcem bus stop in Nanoda, Bicholim.
According to the police complaint, the incident occurred on August 10 at around 4.45 pm. The accused, identified as Shyam Kudchirkar, a resident of Kanolkarwada, Nanoda, Latambarcem, was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting bets on numerical figures from members of the public.
Police said the accused was allegedly issuing paper slips to people in return for the money placed as bets.
During the action, police seized Rs 2,770 in cash along with other articles allegedly related to gambling.
Kudchirkar was arrested in connection with the case and was subsequently released on bail.
Further investigation is being conducted by Head Constable 5037 Ladu Gawas of Bicholim Police Station.
