VASCO: In a concerning incident at Vaddem, Vasco, a man posing as a police officer allegedly deceived a woman and made off with her gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 1.8 lakh.
According to Vasco Police, the incident occurred on October 30, 2024. The victim, identified as Suchita Tirdokar, a resident of Vaddem, reported the crime on Tuesday. She stated that a man, aged between 45 to 50 years, with a wheatish complexion and a height of around 5 feet 2 inches, approached her under the guise of police personnel. The suspect, dressed in a full-sleeved white shirt and grey pants, dishonestly induced her while warning her about potential dangers and insisted on securing her valuables for “safety.” The accused person impersonating as a police officer over the pretext of safety gold ornaments further removed her gold bangles and mangalsutra, which were placed in her handbag. The impersonator took the ornaments and fled from the scene before she realized the deception.
The Vasco Police have registered an offense under sections 319 (2) and 303 (2) of the BNS 2023 Act. LPSI Priyanka Patil of Vasco Police Station is heading the investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam . Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals attempting similar schemes.
