Mangaluru: A man who was arrested here on Tuesday, April 4 by the city police for allegedly keeping an unauthorised pistol with a bullet inside it at his rented accommodation was given the weapon by his friend who is an accused in a murder case.
The arrested youth identified as Shishir had connections with Goa-based Andrew Rodrigues, an accused in Kumar’s murder case of 2014 that happened in Hampankatta. Rodrigues was later arrested in Goa and had obtained bail from a court. However, he had remained absent from court for some time and was reported absconding.
On the other hand, Shishir has criminal cases pending against his name at Mangaluru Port, Kavooru and Pandeshwara police stations.
It is believed that Shishir who hails from Udupi has stayed away from home due to his nefarious criminal activities. He has since been living alone in Mangaluru, it is learnt.
Shishir and Andrew Rodrigues are reported to have met in the jail and have since developed close ties, it is learnt.
Police are readying themselves to lay a trap to nab Rodrigues.
Shishir’s arrest was made after the house owner complained to the police, and during questioning, the man had revealed that the pistol was given to him by Andrew Rodrigues. Shishir has been staying in the house for the last five months, police said.
