MARGAO: Margao Town Police have registered a case after a Margao resident was allegedly cheated of ₹1.42 lakh in an online task scam.
According to the complaint filed by Mohammed Rihan Kittur, the incident took place on August 3, 2026, in Margao.
The complainant was allegedly contacted by an unknown person on his mobile phone and offered online tasks involving rating and posting reviews of hotels and restaurants, with promises of earning money.
The accused allegedly induced Kittur to participate in further tasks and trading activities and dishonestly persuaded him to transfer a total of ₹1,42,000 through different transactions.
However, the accused allegedly failed to provide the promised returns, following which the complainant realised that he had been cheated.
Further investigation is being conducted by LPSI Anushka Parab of Margao Town Police Station.
