MARGAO: A 31-year-old man from Margao died while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident reported under Cuncolim Police Station limits.
According to police information received on June 14 at 12.37 pm, the hospital authorities informed that Ajay Pandrekar, a resident of Malbhat, Margao, had succumbed to his injuries during treatment at GMC.
Enquiry revealed that the deceased was involved in Accident No. 61/2026 dated June 13. The victim, along with two friends, had travelled in a private vehicle to Ankola, Karnataka, for a religious visit to a temple and were returning to Margao when the mishap occurred.
Police said that while approaching near Cuncolim Police Station, the deceased, who was driving the vehicle, lost control and the car dashed against a footpath, resulting in a self-accident.
All three occupants sustained injuries and were initially shifted to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Balli for treatment. The deceased was later referred to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, and subsequently to GMC Bambolim, where he died despite medical efforts.
The body has been preserved at GMC Bambolim for further medico-legal formalities. Further investigation is being conducted in connection with the case registered at Cuncolim Police Station.
