According to police, Mrs. Debi Giri Bahadur, a resident of Caranzalem, Tiswadi, lodged a complaint stating that an unknown male had forcibly taken her 11-year-old granddaughter to Caranzalem beach and allegedly committed rape.
The incident came to light after the Panaji Police Control Room received a call at around 1.30 pm reporting that a minor girl had been raped at Caranzalem beach. A PSI and lady police constable immediately attended the location and brought the minor girl to Panaji Police Station along with her grandmother, who is her guardian.
As the girl was experiencing severe pain and was unable to walk, she was immediately referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for medical examination. During the process of recording the complaint, police received information from the GMC doctor that the victim was 11 years old and that the presence of her guardian was required for the medical examination.
Following the medical examination, a detailed statement of the victim was recorded at GMC in the presence of an NGO representative. The guardian’s detailed complaint was also recorded at GMC to avoid any further delay.
