COLVALE: 36-year-old woman died after sustaining serious head injuries in a road accident on NH-66 at Colvale, Bardez, after a Mahindra Scorpio allegedly hit the scooter on which she was travelling as a pillion rider.
According to the complaint filed by Head Constable Pandurang Gunaji Naik of Colvale Police Station, the accident occurred at around 5.30 pm on October 3, opposite Ghotneshwar Temple on NH-66.
Police said the accused driver, identified as David s/o Gabriel Mohite, 36, a resident of Miraj, Sangli, Maharashtra, was driving a Mahindra Scorpio bearing registration number MH-09-GM-1898 from Karaswada, Mapusa, towards Pernem.
The police complaint alleges that the driver was driving in a rash and negligent manner, under the influence of alcohol, and was also not in possession of a valid driving licence. While overtaking another vehicle near Ghotneshwar Temple, the Scorpio allegedly collided with the rear of a Fascino scooter bearing registration number GA-03-V-7501, which was travelling in the same direction.
The pillion rider of the scooter, Akansha Bhansali, 36, sustained serious head injuries in the collision. She was shifted for treatment to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where she later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
The scooter rider, Kalpesh Jain, and his daughter also sustained bodily injuries in the accident.
Colvale Police have registered an offence based on the complaint and are conducting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident, including the allegations of drunken and rash driving and driving without a valid licence.
