CANACONA: The Department of History of Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College, Canacona, organised the inauguration of a flagship programme on the theme “Nation Building Through the Vision of Nationalist Leaders”.
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the role played by nationalist leaders in the making of the nation and encourage them to imbibe their values and principles in contemporary society.
The programme began with a tribute by Assistant Professor Ms. Arantxa Colaco, who presented a nationalist song, followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp. A wall chart titled “Legends of Indian Nationalism”, prepared by TYBA student Ms. Rishelle D’Souza, was also released.
Associate Professor Domitel D’Souza, Head of the Department of History, in her introductory remarks, explained the significance of the theme and the relevance of studying nationalist leaders from the perspective of nation building. She said nation building is not merely a historical process but an ongoing responsibility in which every citizen has a role to play.
TYBA student Ms. Palak Rivankar delivered a presentation and speech on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, highlighting his contributions and the qualities that the younger generation can learn from his life and work.
Dnyan Prabodhini Mandal Chairman Chetan Manju Desai congratulated the Department of History for organising the programme and appreciated the students and faculty members for presenting creative ideas. He encouraged students to learn from the vision and values of great national leaders and contribute positively to society.
Former Head of Administration at the college, Ramdas Sawant, spoke about the importance of nationalist leaders and their contribution to the development of the nation. He highlighted values such as patriotism, dedication, discipline and social responsibility that can be learned from the lives of great national leaders.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Professor Shibani Pagi. Shreya Dhuri compered the programme.
