PORVORIM: With the demand for Goa’s peak load increasing, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar refuted Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao’s claim that the Tamnar project is not necessary.
According to him, Goa’s power needs will soon surpass 1200 MW, which this Tamnar plant can supply. The Power Minister explained his view on the project, saying that the only alignment the firm was against was the original one.
“My only complaint was with the original alignment, which called for the removal of multiple trees. During the Assembly session, Dhavalikar stated, “I never opposed the Tamnar project.”
Alemao and a few other opposition lawmakers had previously contended that the project was needless and that, if updated, the state could get up to 2000 megawatts of electricity from the national grids through the four interstate transmission lines currently in place. They claimed that the project would negatively impact the state’s ecosystem.
Before beginning the same process for low-tension lines, we will finish underground cabling all high-tension cables. The LT subterranean cabling might run as high as Rs 30,000 to 40,000 crore, and it is currently not feasible outside of a few tourist destinations and other high-priority places, according to Dhavalikar.
Regarding the issue of power outages and voltage swings, Dhavalikar stated that it would be extremely challenging to create plans for transformer upgrades that would guarantee a higher-quality power supply until the department gets reliable data on the real power load of customers.
Additionally, he stated that each sub-division will have a ladder-mounted truck for street light maintenance, and each division will have one lift crane-mounted vehicle.
According to Dhavalikar, book entries are used by the Finance department to initiate the process of recovering arrears for government departments.
