PORVORIM: Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik informed the House that Goa’s sole sugar factory has not been operating and that attempts to rehabilitate it by converting it into an ethanol production plant have also not received a response.
In a written response that was presented to the House on Friday, Naik informed the members that Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd. (SSSKL), a state-run business, is not currently operating.
Dayanand Bandodkar, the first chief minister of Goa, opened the facility in Dharbandora hamlet in South Goa with the goal of encouraging sugarcane farming in the region.
Naik stated that Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd. does not have an elected board of directors. He stated, “Therefore, the Administrator has been appointed by the State Government to oversee the Society’s affairs.”
According to the minister, plans are being considered for the public-private partnership (PPP) mode of ethanol manufacturing as part of the redevelopment of Sanjivani SahakariSakhar Karkhana Ltd.
“The Government of Goa e-procurement system solicited applications for a Request for Qualification (RFQ) on the second call in order to identify competent and qualified bidders for the reconstruction of Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., which includes the manufacture of ethanol on a PPP basis.
