CANACONA – Taking the last three years’ “Mission for Progressive Canacona”, at the Centre’s door, GPCC General Secretary Janardhan Bhandari submitted a charter 15-demands to the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highway Nitin Gadkari to improve the Margao to Polem highway road.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Janardhan S. Bhandari submitted a memorandum to Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari and others after noticing the pathetic condition to repair hot-mix the NH-66 road from Polem to Margao.
“For the last three years, we strive to get the Margao to Polem Highway (NH 66) repaired and hot-mixed for the betterment of Canaonkars, tirelessly fighting under ‘Mission Progressive Canacona. Through this memorandum, we have placed 15 demands before the Hon’ble Union Minister, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, the Hon’ble P.W.D. Minister, the Chairman of NHAI, the P.C.E. of P.W.D with a request to fulfil the same at the earliest and make the Margao-Canacona Highway smooth for traffic”, Janardhan Bhandari told Goemkarponn.
He said the memorandum has listed the demands for checking road feasibility, immediate hot mixing of old and new NH 66 (Margao to Canacona, Canacona to Pollen & Manohar Parrikar Bypass Road), installation of speed breakers, implementation of the speed limit, displaying traffic signages, repair of roadside shoulders, clearing trees on Highways posing a threat for traffic, immediate installation of weighing machines to control evasion of taxes and save government revenue, availability of heavy crane to clear accident spot, checking fitness of old bridges, provision of the concrete drainage system, functioning of a street light from Margao to Polem, setting- up a parking hub for heavy vehicles, blocklisting of erring P.W.D. Contractors and action on P.W.D. Engineers for misuse of power.
Janardhan Bhandari further informed that these demands are prepared and placed for implementation only by ascertaining the difficulties the travellers face while travelling on the entire stretch and noticing the other problems/issues on the Margao-Polem Highway (NH 66).
Bhandari further appealed to the Union and State Ministers and all government authorities to consider the plight of the common Canaconkars and resolve the problems related to Margao-Polem Highway by fulfilling all the 15 demands on a priority basis, which are suggested through this memorandum.
The memorandum is also submitted to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, the hon’ble minister for P.W.D., Govt. of Goa, the hon’ble Opposition Leader, the M.L.A. of Canacona, the Chief Engineer, Quality Control Zone of Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, The Chairman, National Highway Authority of Goa (NHAI), the Collector of South Goa District, the Principal Chief Engineer of P.W.D.
