PANAJI: In a significant move, the State government has made consent from the Judiciary mandatory for changing the names of those whose parents or grandparents are not born in Goa.
“People will have to seek of the Judiciary to change the name; People with parents and grandparents born in Goa will be allowed to have Goan surnames,” said Law Minister Nilesh Cabral.
He further said that Amendments in Sale Deed Act to maintain online records of books and digital photographs along with primary thumb impressions recorded at the registration department.
Cabral said the amendment would be sent for the President of India’s consent.
“With the State Cabinet approving amendment to the Goa Change of Name and Surname Act, 1990, a person who is born in Goa or has a parent or grandparent born in Goa would be able to change his name or surname in future,’ said Cabral
Speaking on water supply, Cabral said that for domestic or commercial theft, there was imprisonment for six months which has been changed to Rs. 10,000 for domestic and Rs. 50,000 for commercial registration act of 1908.
“Amendment bill will be passed in assembly later; it will be sent for presidential consent,” he added.
