PANAJI: The State government has tightened the noose around Dominic D’Souza, who was recently arrested in the religious conversion case, issuing him show cause over the road tax exemption given for the purchase of a Mercedes vehicle in 2014.
The notice issued by the Directorate of Transport states that the tax payment for MV No GA03 Y2020 Mercedes Benz was given to a charitable institution.
“As per the opinion of the Law Department that a luxury vehicle like a bove prescribed one is not required for the use of any charitable purpose and therefore and therefore has come to the conclusion that the notification issued on 15/10/2014 is required to be withdrawn,” the notice reads.
It further says, “Nine, therefore, your are required to submit your written say within seven (07) days from the réceipt of this notice as to why the Government should not reconsider its eariler decision to grant exemption of tax in support of M.V.No. GAD3Y 3020 and revoke Notification No. 5/5/70-Tpt/2014/3624 dated 15/10/2014 from the date and recover the tax amount from the society.
“A hearing is fixed in the matter in the Chamber al the undersigned on 08/06/2022, at 4.30 pm. at Office of the Directorate of Transport, Junta House, Panaji-Goa.
If no reply is received within the time limit specified above it will be considered that you have no say on the subject and proceed further to suitable action as may found necessary,” it said.
