Margao: The Opinion Poll Celebration at Lohia Maidan ended with various groups and polirical parties appealing to fight the BJP govt and the coal issue unitedly.
At the outset anti-coal crusader Olencio Simoes said the Goa government is busy in only transportation of coal.
Olencio also appealed Goans to unite and come forward to support this movement which will protect Goa.
“They want to make Goa a pollution hub. The cancer cases are increasing day by day and also respiratory problems are rising. Already govt sold 6 Goan rivers,” he said.
Shubham Shivolkar, who spearheaded the IIT Goa agitation at Shel Melauli, said that the people’s movement must continue against injustice.
“After fighting for months together, we have won first battle. I thank all people who supported our movement . Our movement will continue till we get justice,” he said.
Father Bolmex Pereira appealed to the gathering for rise to protect the environment.
“We need to protect Goa from encouragement, destruction of our nature and natural resources otherwise the future generation will curse us,” he said adding
spillage of coal is a slow poison.
Dr Jerson Fernandies said coal transportation will destory our lungs it contain heavy metals, which are very dangerous to our health.
“There are many other ways to produce electricity like solar, wind etc. Coal poisoning is very dangerous which can lead to parkinsan, weaknes of eyes , emotional disturbance. Govt should seriously think on handling of coal,” he said.
Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco urged people to unite to protect Goa from BJP government.
“They are busy in destroying Goa and it’s resources,” he said.
Reginald also appealed all opposition parties to unite together to defeat BJP.
“It’s the only way to save Goa,” he said.
Goa Forward president Vijai Sardesai said that the BJP government CM is a non-Goan and the current govt is a Sawantwadi sarkar.
“Its very shameful that there is no single official functions to celebrate Opinion Poll by government. CM Pramod Sawant is busy enjoying IFFI with Prakash Jawdekar, the person who stabbed Goa by diverting Mhadei to Karnataka,” he aaid.
He also agreed to Reginald calls for Opposition to unite and fight aginst BJP.
He also accused govt of using IAS officers to suppress the voice of comman man.
“Government is going all out to finish the coman man,” Sardesai said.
The Fatorda MLA also said he will move a private memeber resolution in coming assembly.
Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat congratulated the people of Shel Melaulim, who unitedly fought aginst the IIT project which was forced on them.
“The present BJP govt is acting like salazar. In coming assembly we have tabled a private member resolutions and that day it will be clear who is aginst and who is in support. We will corner the rulling party in coming assembly seation,” he aaid.
Resolutions adopted by tge citizens:
1. That the process of land acquisition for the so called special project, namely Hospet-Hubli-Tinaighat-Vasco-da-Gama doubling be immediately stopped and de-notified.
2. That the South Western Railway authorities should stop the illegal work including double tracking of the railway tracks in Goa.
3. The Expansion of four-laning of National Highways in the state of Goa should be stopped immediately.
4. The 400 KV High Tension Power Transmission Line passing through the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park be scrapped as there is over 400 MW surplus power available to Goa.
5. The Major Ports Authorities Bill 2020 that will give absolute powers and autonomy to Mormugao Port Trust should be amended to ensure that MPT is excluded from the bill and the jurisdiction of all the rivers and the entire coast along the state is handed over to the Captain of Ports.
6. All destructive projects envisaged by MPT under the garb of Sagarmala and Coastal Economic Zone (CEZ) planned to make Goa into a Coal transportation hub for South Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka Industry should be scrapped.
