CANACONA – The entire beach/Coastline of the world famous Palolem Beach had gone undersea for a significant part of Saturday morning.
The Arabian Sea, almost on the boiled, had swelled too high, and hissing waves were seen engulfing the otherwise golden sands of the cresent-shaped 1.5 Kms long beach shore.
A few visitors who visited the beach could not even view the sands nor descend on the shoreline on Saturday morning as the seas had almost covered the entire beach line shore, while at other places, strong waves hitting the Coast border made it visibly unreachable.
‘It was high tide, and it’s been a few days now, that Sea has ventured landward in too many areas at Palolem ‘, informed a resident.
Incidentally, life-Savers personnel stood guard to see no one entering or descending on the beach shore at the main beach entrance, keeping several visitors aloof.
Many people, mostly coastal residents, having used various measures to avoid inland sand dunes, care reportedly keeping a watchful eye as the waves keeps on pounding the coast, even as some of the protection walls have been given away in some places.
With the rough and high rising seas entering into the landward side has become a regular feature in monsoons, Palolem is crying for an adequate solution to save the degrading Coastline, asserts locals.
Palolem had also seen similar or even worst situations in the last three years, 2019 and also during the Tauktae cyclone in 2021, destroying the beach coast and affecting people’s properties.
‘The savage continues, but authorities hardly have any solution to these recurring natural calamities affecting the people ‘, informed Krish Pagi, a local resident.
