MARGAO: South Goa special court has granted 3 months exemption to Minister Babush Monserrate from appearing before it in 2008 Panaji Police station attack case.
His wife Jennifer Monserrate who had also sought exemption has been granted 2 months extension from appearance before the Court.
The matter came for hearing before the special court today. Next hearing in the matter is scheduled on Jan 24.
Both Babush and Jennifer Monserrate had sought permanent exemption from appearance in the case.
Incidentally, CBI Counsel had opposed granting of exemption to both of them during last hearing on July 14.
CBI, Mumbai had charge-sheeted Monserrate couple and 34 others under Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 153, 324, 325, 326, 332, 333, 427 and 435 of IPC and Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
Justice Manish Pitale of the Bombay High Court at Goa on December 22, in a 31 paged judgment, while dismissing the applications seeking quashing of the proceedings, directed that the trial should commence and be expedited as there was prima facie evidence against the accused.
