BICHOLIM: Pilgao farmers are reportedly considering petitioning the Bombay High Court in Goa to halt the village’s ore transportation after they claimed that truck drivers’ careless driving had made the main road unsafe for drivers, particularly students, and was contributing to dust pollution.
According to the locals, who utilize the ferryboat service, the passage of trucks carrying iron ore might produce dust pollution, which can lead to respiratory issues.
Their problems are exacerbated by the mining company’s failure to meet their demands, which include payment. Even though the residents objected to the ore being transported from the village road to the Sarmanas jetty, the ore transportation has now resumed along the main road under police protection.
The State administration was directed by the High Court on December 17 to come up with a legal solution for the transportation of ore in Pilgao, Bicholim.
The mining firm has been given a deadline by the villagers to resolve their demands within the next fifteen days. The locals have called for the buffer zone to be defined and to be devoid of any homes, shrines, lakes, or plantations.
Since 2011, they have also called for the fields to be desilted and compensation. The Mulgao Village Panchayat, Farmers Association leader Prakash Parab, and Mulgao temple committee president Vasant Gad have all jointly served the notice.
According to the residents, the government has permitted mining operations for over ten years, and the mining business is indiscriminately transporting iron ore, which is polluting the hamlet with dust.
Following the expiration of the ultimatum, the villagers said they would sketch out their future plan.
