Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a rally in Bihar’s Gaya on Tuesday, questioned those abusing Sanatan Dharma, saying that “80-90% of the people in the Constituent Assembly that made the Constitution of India were Sanatanis”.
“Dr Rajendra Prasad was key in the formation of the Constitution. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar drafted it…Those who abuse Sanatan should listen carefully that 80-90% of the people in the Constituent Assembly that made the Constitution of India were Sanatanis and those Sanatanis supported Ambedkar in making such a great Constitution,” he said.
PM Modi added, “…Our Constitution is pure. The framers of the Constitution dreamt of a prosperous India. However, the A post by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), quoted PM as saying, “The arrogant alliance members say why cross 400? The people of the country have decided to cross 400! Because the people of the country want to see India developed in 2047. But, to punish those who loot the country, those who indulge in corruption, and those who tamper with the Constitution, the people of the country want to give NDA 400 votes. This election is also about making NDA win, this election is also about punishing those who have the habit of causing destruction in the country. Therefore the count is going to cross 400.”
Congress party that ruled for decades in the country lost the opportunity…25 crore poor have been brought out of poverty by your ‘sevak’.”
Modi also said his government started the celebration of Constitution Day on November 26, which was objected to by Congress’s Mallikarjun Kharge. “For the next five years, Modi’s ‘guarantee card’ has been updated. Three crore houses will be made for the poor, the poor will get free ration for the next five years, those above 70 years of age will receive free treatment upto Rs 5 lakhs, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi will be continued. All these are Modi’s guarantees,” PM Modi said. “Ghamandia Gathbandhan’ has no vision or trust. When they go asking for votes, they do so on the work done by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Entire Bihar knows why they try and take credit for the work done by Nitish and the central government,” the Prime Minister said, adding, “The RJD is responsible for destroying Bihar with fodder scam, land for jobs scam.”
SANATAN CONTROVERSY
Sanatan Dharma is used to denote ‘eternal’ or absolute set of duties or religiously ordained practices incumbent upon all Hindus, regardless of class, caste, or sect. The teachings of Sanatan Dharma are laid out in Vedic scriptures, including Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita. Some of the principles and practices include virtues, moksha, Yoga, rebirth, Karma, Paap and Punya. The social structure in the Sanatan Dharma was based on the Varna system, which divides society into four varnas or groups- brahmana (priests), Kshatriya (Kings/administrators), Vaisya (merchants), and Shudra (workers) depending upon their individual nature and inclinations. Unlike what is believed today, the varna could change and three are enough evidences in the scriptures. The scriptures recommend that a person’s varna or caste is ascertained by his guna (nature) and activities and not solely by the assessment of his birth.
