PONDA: Ponda Police arrested former Dharbandora ZP Govind Kushta Gaonkar (49 in connection with illegal laterite stone extraction at Borkotem, Mollem, after Court rejected his anticipatory bail application.
The accused, apprehended by Police, had filed an anticipatory bail in the Court of Session Judge, South Goa Margao, following a crime registered against him by police.
The Mines Department alleged that accused had conducted theft of laterite stone amounting to Rs 1.39 Crore.
According to Ponda Police, on 25 July, Collem Police registered an offence against Govind Gaonkar based upon the complaint of Jeetendra Veluskar, Assistant Geologist Department of Mines, regarding illegal laterite stones extraction in property surveyed under 33/1 of Village Mollem Dharbandora.
The accused had applied for anticipatory bail at Additional Session Court Margao on 30 July, which was rejected today. According to Mines Department, the theft of laterite stones amounts to Rs 13971194. He was traced at Collem and arrested in connection with the above crime.
It is learnt that this laterite stone quarry matter at Barkotem is also subjudice in High Court.
