Prayagraj :
The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s most significant religious gatherings, is currently underway in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This monumental event has drawn the attention of top Indian leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who are likely to attend. The Mela has already attracted millions of devotees from across the globe, with foreign tourists expressing deep reverence for the sacred rituals and sites.
The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, scheduled from January 13 to February 26, is a testament to India’s rich spiritual heritage. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to grace the event, adding to its grandeur. Former President Ram Nath Kovind is also involved in the Maha Kumbh’s organisation, underscoring the event’s national significance.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently reviewed the preparations for the upcoming Mauni Amavasya, highlighting the event’s grand scale and the meticulous planning involved. Adityanath chose not to take a holy dip at the Sangam on Makar Sankranti and Paush Purnima to ensure the convenience and safety of seers and devotees.
The event has seen an overwhelming turnout, with over one crore people, including devotees and residents of Kumbh tents, present at the site. An aerial survey was conducted to assess the preparations, and more than 7,000 organisations have already arrived. The major bathing events on Mauni Amavasya (January 29) and Basant Panchami (February 3) are highly anticipated.
The central and state government departments are working in full coordination to ensure the convenience and safety of the large crowd. The vision of a “grand, divine, and digital Kumbh” is being realised, with a focus on connecting pilgrims’ faith with modernity and honouring their devotion. Senior officials, including the chief secretary and the director general of police, have been deployed to address all issues and ensure smooth operations.
Governors, chief ministers, and judges from various states are continuously visiting and bathing at the Sangam, adding to the event’s prestige. Over seven crore people took a holy dip at Triveni on Sunday, with expectations of eight to 10 crore devotees on Mauni Amavasya.
To manage the massive influx of devotees, the chief minister has directed officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply, proper maintenance of toilets, and a well-planned crowd-management strategy. The upkeep of pontoon bridges and consistent publicity of traffic-management and parking arrangements are also being emphasized.
Special railway arrangements, including over 200 Mela Special trains, have been planned for Mauni Amavasya to facilitate the movement of devotees. Adityanath suggested having separate railway stations for routine trains and Mela Special trains to manage crowd movement efficiently.
The Maha Kumbh Mela has been a cultural and spiritual magnet, attracting devotees from all over the world. Foreign tourists, despite not knowing Hindi, Sanskrit, or Awadhi, have been chanting Hindi chaupais, Sanskrit mantras, and verses connected to Sanatan Dharma with great devotion. Their reverence for Mother Ganga and the sacred places has been overwhelming, reflecting the universal appeal of this ancient ritual.
