PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today informed that the procedure has begun to declare Wild Boar as vermin.
“Government has begun with the process to declare Wild Boar animal as vermin,” said CM Sawant speaking to reporters
Goa State Wildlife Board on Wednesday recommended the National Wildlife Board (NWB) to declare wild boars as vermin because of the damage they allegedly cause to agriculture in the State.
Wild boars are common in the regions of the Western Ghats traversing through Goa. Wild boar meat, banned officially, is commonly served in homes and eateries in forests South of Goa.
The national bird, peacock, and the State animal, the great Indian bison, have been spared the vermin tag, along with specific species of monkeys.
