New Delhi: India enjoyed a memorable Day 10 at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi Nagoya, with Neeru Dhanda ending the country’s wait for an individual shooting gold medal.
Dhanda produced a superb performance in the women’s individual trap event despite difficult rainy conditions to claim the gold medal. Her victory also marked India’s fifth gold of the Games and ended the country’s gold medal drought in individual shooting at the Asian Games.
Earlier in the day, India’s women’s trap team secured a silver medal, adding to the shooting haul. The men’s trap team, however, narrowly missed out on a team medal. Shapath Bharadwaj provided another positive moment by advancing to the individual final.
Boxing also delivered a strong showing for India, with Ankush Panghal and Parveen Hooda reaching their respective finals after winning their semifinal bouts. Their victories guaranteed India at least two silver medals, with both boxers now set to fight for gold.
There was disappointment for Narender Berwal in the men’s 90+kg category. He fought hard in his semifinal but was unable to advance to the final. His run nevertheless earned India another bronze medal in boxing.
With shooting and boxing producing medals and finalists, attention now shifts to the athletics programme on the final day of track and field competition.
India will look to Gulveer Singh, Avinash Sable, Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur and Harita Bhadra to add to the medal tally as the athletics events reach their conclusion.
Day 10 has already given India a significant milestone, with Dhanda’s individual shooting triumph providing one of the standout moments of the country’s Asian Games campaign.
