Aam Aadmi Party leader and President of the Goa Mining People’s Front Puti Gaonkar stated that the Ramesh Naik’s suicide case in the Sankhali constituency was an instance of economic death. Gaonkar has called for CM Pramod Sawant’s resignation, claiming that his government has failed to restart mining in the state.
Recently, a 54-year-old Ramesh Naik from Kudnem, Sankhali committed suicide after he lost all hopes of resumption of mining operations.
Puti Gaonkar stated that CM Pramod Sawant should have resigned immediately after this unfortunate tragedy. He has failed his own people as CM and MLA of the Sankhali constituency.
Gaonkar also requested that the government compensate Naik’s family for the loss of their sole breadwinner. In addition, he proposed a monthly compensation payment of Rs. 25,000 for mining dependents in order to avert such tragedies.
He remarked during a press conference held at the party’s Panaji office, “About three lakh people in Goa, or over a quarter of the state’s population, are facing a dark future with no hope in sight. Despite the BJP government’s claims, no actual action has been taken”.
AAP Vice President Valmiki Naik said that according to a report presented in the Loksabha, 96 persons committed suicide in the state between 2017 and 2021, with 30 of them committing suicide owing to unemployment.
Naik said, “Unemployment has been a major concern in the state, but the BJP government continues to ignore it. The unemployment rate has been rising and in the pandemic year of 2020-2021, the unemployment rate reached a new level”.
“AAP is the only government in the country that has been talking about the job creation. The AAP is the only government to pitch the budget as a “Rojgar budget”, in which the Delhi government has promised to create 20 lakh jobs over the next five years”, Naik added.
AAP leader Rajdeep Naik said, “We’ve been hearing about farmer suicides in Maharashtra as a result of the state’s agrarian crisis. Now, in Goa, a mining dependant committed suicide as a result of the mine’s shutdown. About three lakh individuals have lost their jobs as a result of the mining closure. Despite this, the BJP government has simply given the mining dependents phoney assurances. We demand that the administration find a solution to the state’s unemployment problem”.
