VASCO: In a major decision, Sancoale panchayat has resolved to make the village garbage-free by December 31st 2021.
Unlike in the past, the Panchayat has decided to go aggressive to fulfil its dream of becoming Garbage free and black spots free by December 31st this year.
If everything goes as decided, the growing problem of solid waste management in the village would be a thing of past.
Speaking to reporters, Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai informed that this time Panchayat wants to do everything before Garbage free.
However, he requested the villagers for their support. He said that everything will be strictly followed from a complete ban on plastic usage to taking actions against those found casually throwing waste materials on the roadside, besides removing dark spots and proper waste management.
Pillai stressed that Panchayat aims to take maximum citizens onboard the team already formed for the Mission Garbage free Sancoale. The mission officially launched on December 1st is a part of their five-part series programme, public awareness, efficient door to door collection with waste segregation at the source, removal of dark spots, cleanliness drive in garbage hotspot areas and installation of CCTV cameras at all dark spots.
On Wednesday, the High Court-appointed committee to look into facilities to treat dry and wet waste in panchayats and municipalities inspected the Material Recovery Facility at Sancoale.
In February this year, the HC had observed that panchayats have been passing the buck to other agencies and giving excuses for not setting up these facilities. Hence the court-appointed a committee with the managing director of the Goa Waste.
