SANGUEM: Sanguem Police have registered a case after a woman was allegedly cheated of ₹1.47 lakh by an unknown person who posed as an SBI credit card official.
According to the complaint filed by Sonia Eliza Mascarenhas, the incident took place on July 28, 2026, at around 1.30 pm.
The complainant allegedly received a phone call from an unknown person who claimed to be calling from the SBI credit card office. The caller reportedly told her that her credit card limit would be increased from ₹2.14 lakh to ₹3.14 lakh.
Believing the caller to be genuine, Mascarenhas shared an OTP with the accused as requested.
Subsequently, ₹1,47,200 was allegedly debited from her bank account, following which she realised that she had been cheated.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Krishnadeep Borkar of Sanguem Police Station.
