CANACONA: In a move aimed at strengthening access to education and improving basic facilities, State Bank of India (SBI) has provided 70 bicycles and constructed a dedicated toilet block for girl students at Government High School (GHS), Gaondongrim under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The newly built sanitation facility for girls was formally inaugurated on Monday, followed by the distribution of bicycles to students. The event was attended by senior SBI officials, school staff, parents, and local stakeholders.
Deputy General Manager (AO Panaji) Shailendra Mishra, Regional Manager (South Goa) Ashish Kumar, Canacona Branch Manager Ashish Pawar, and Gaondongrim Branch Manager Dhiraj Kumar Singh were present along with other officials from SBI’s regional and administrative offices.
Speaking on the occasion, Mishra underlined the importance of such initiatives in promoting hygiene, dignity, and a supportive learning environment for girl students. He also stressed the role of education and social responsibility in community development.
Regional Manager Ashish Kumar noted that the bicycle distribution was intended to do more than ease travel. He said it would encourage confidence, independence, and regular school attendance among students.
School Headmaster Sagar Velip expressed gratitude to SBI for its support, stating that the initiative would have a lasting positive impact on the students. Teacher Yeshwant Gaonkar also highlighted how the new facilities would benefit the school community.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Teacher Nima Carvalho, while Teacher Nidhi Painginkar conducted the proceedings.
