PANAJI: Sonics emerged as the new champions of women’s basketball in the state after producing an impressive performance to defeat Jades in the final of the All Goa Basketball Tournament. The title clash witnessed confident play from the winning side as they recorded a 26 to 18 victory and lifted the trophy in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Right from the opening minutes, Sonics displayed better coordination and sharper intent. Their players combined disciplined defending with quick transitions, making it difficult for Jades to settle into a rhythm. By the end of the first half, Sonics had built a solid 12 to 4 lead, reflecting their dominance on both ends of the court. The advantage allowed them to control the tempo of the match during the remaining periods.
The second half saw Jades attempt a comeback with energetic attacks and tighter marking, but Sonics maintained their composure. Accurate passing and intelligent shot selection helped the champions protect their lead. Every time Jades reduced the gap, Sonics responded with timely baskets, underlining their confidence and preparation.
Kim Dsouza played a decisive role for the winners, finishing the game with 10 points and leading from the front. Her all round contribution earned her the Most Valuable Player award in the finals. Keiya Fernandes also made a strong impact with 7 points and several crucial defensive efforts that kept the opponents under pressure.
For the second placed team, Eneira Fernandes fought hard and scored 6 points, while Amisha Lotlikar added 5 points to keep hopes alive. Despite their determination, Jades were unable to break through the organised defence of Sonics and had to settle for the runners position.
The tournament brought together some of the best talent from across the state and provided an exciting platform for women athletes. The final encounter highlighted the growing competitiveness of the sport and the improving standards among local teams. Supporters applauded both sides for their spirit and commitment throughout the event.
