MARGAO: Local MLA Digambar Kamat stated that the solid waste management site in Sonsoddo will have a clean appearance by the end of January as the cleanup efforts are almost finished.
“At Sonsoddo, almost 80–85% of the planned works have already been completed,” Kamat informed reporters. “The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has begun the process of bioremediating the waste from inside the shed, and Sonsoddo no longer has a foul smell.”
The local MLA’s comments coincide with the next hearing of the Sonsoddo case by the Bombay high court in Goa, which is set for the following week.
Officials from the local civic body stated that the municipality has followed the majority of the high court’s orders in the Sonsoddo case.
The court had ordered the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to transfer Sonsoddo’s biomedical waste as soon as possible to Kundaim’s biomedical waste treatment facility during the case’s prior hearing.
