PANAJI: The District Magistrate of South Goa has imposed penalties on several food business operators for manufacturing and selling sub-standard Captain Cook iodised salt.
According to official information, a penalty of Rs 1.50 lakh has been imposed on Hindustan Unilever Limited, located at Salt City, Village Chopadva, Taluka Bhachau, Kachch, Gujarat, for manufacturing and selling sub-standard iodised salt.
A penalty of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on Chotubhai Agencies, located at Udyamnagar Industrial Area, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.
Similarly, Methani Enterprises of Gogal, Margao, has been fined Rs 50,000, while Rehman Traders General Merchant has been penalised Rs 5,000 in the matter.
In another case, a penalty of Rs 1.50 lakh has been imposed on Smt. Amita Ankush Shetkar, food business operator and vendor of Shantadurga General Store, along with Western India Sea Brines Pvt. Ltd. for allegedly selling sub-standard quality Captain Cook iodised salt.
The action was taken by the District Magistrate, South Goa, under food safety and quality regulations.
