MARGAO: A meeting of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, South Goa, under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, was chaired by in the presence of and , along with officials from the Social Welfare Department.
During the meeting, the committee emphasized that all pending cases under the Prevention of Atrocities Act must be disposed of strictly in accordance with prescribed legal procedures and within the stipulated time frame.
The Superintendent of Police informed the committee that no cases have been reported under the Act during the current year. He further stated that only two cases were reported in the previous year and charge sheets in both matters have already been filed.
It was also informed that the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has conducted awareness programmes under the Act and compensation has been provided to victims.
The chairperson directed all concerned officials to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Act and adhere to all guidelines mandated under the law.
