PANAJI: Cooperation Minister Subhash Shirodkar said that the government is moving to attach the assets of three cooperative credit societies accused of defrauding depositors, with investigations expected to conclude within six to eight months.
Shirodkar named the societies as Ashtagandha Urban Cooperative Credit Society in Assonora-Bardez, Visionaries in Margao, and Marcel Mahila Urban Credit Society. He assured that the state is committed to recovering as much money as possible for depositors. “We will try to ensure that depositors get the maximum amount back,” he said.
He also noted that he and senior state officials attended a national cooperation conference in New Delhi chaired by Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah. “Shah shared over 65 recommendations for strengthening the sector under the motto ‘Sahakar se Samruddhi’,” Shirodkar added.
Highlighting Goa’s cooperative sector turnover of ₹13,500 crore annually, the minister said the government plans to establish at least one cooperative society in every village. He said existing societies will be granted multipurpose status and new societies will be encouraged to create opportunities for youth and women.
