PANAJI: Congress leader Sunil Kawthankar has raised concerns over what he described as a delay in police action against individuals accused of posting derogatory content on social media targeting Hindu deities.
Referring to multiple complaints reportedly filed at various police stations, Kawthankar questioned why no arrests have been made so far.
He said the lack of immediate action could undermine public confidence and potentially embolden those attempting to disrupt communal harmony.
In his statement, Kawthankar urged Goa Police to take suo motu cognisance of the matter, act promptly against the accused, and seize electronic devices involved to prevent tampering or destruction of evidence.
He also called upon the Director General of Police to intervene without delay and ensure that law enforcement agencies respond decisively.
Emphasising the need to maintain peace and order, Kawthankar stated that any attempts to incite communal discord must be dealt with strictly, irrespective of the individuals involved.
