COLVALE: A health and wellness awareness programme titled “Swasth Police – Sashakth Police Program” was organised at the Central Jail Colvale on Tuesday for police personnel and prison staff.
The programme was jointly organised by Goa Police, VIANAAR Group, Indian Medical Association Bicholim and the Telemedicine Society of India Goa Chapter.
K. R. Chaurasia, Inspector General of Prisons Goa and Inspector General of Police Goa, attended the event as Chief Guest, while Sucheta B. Dessai, Superintendent of Prisons at Central Jail Colvale, was the Special Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Chaurasia highlighted the importance of physical and mental well-being, discipline and healthy living among uniformed personnel. Dessai appreciated the initiative and stressed the need for wellness and stress management among staff.
The inaugural session included the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, presentation of mobility support aids by Jones Samuel of VIANAAR Group to two needy inmates in the presence of jail authorities, and presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation to Central Jail Colvale.
Shekhar Salkar, President of IMA Bicholim and President of the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE), spoke on tobacco control, drugs and substance abuse awareness. He stated that children who stay away from smoking are less likely to drift towards drugs and addiction, remarking that “Gateway to the drugs is via smoking tobacco.”
Health awareness sessions were also conducted by Devdutt Sail, Secretary of TSI Goa Chapter, Gaurav Desai, Associate Professor at Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya and Research Centre, and Vishakha Moghe, Occupational Yoga Expert.
The programme was compered by Vilas Parab, Officer at Central Jail Colvale, while the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Sucheta B. Dessai.
