New Delhi: India has strongly criticised Iran following an attack on a major port facility in the United Arab Emirates that left three Indian citizens injured. The strike targeted the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone, a key energy hub, amid rising tensions in the region linked to ongoing geopolitical friction.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the incident as unacceptable and expressed concern over the targeting of civilian infrastructure. It urged an immediate halt to hostilities and emphasised the need to protect innocent lives. The government reiterated its position that dialogue and diplomatic engagement remain the only viable path to restoring peace and stability across the Middle East.
India also highlighted the importance of maintaining uninterrupted maritime movement through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Safe and free navigation in the region is seen as critical not only for regional stability but also for global energy security. New Delhi affirmed its readiness to support efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution.
Narendra Modi also voiced strong condemnation of the attack, echoing concerns over the impact on civilians and essential infrastructure. He stressed that such actions undermine stability and called for restraint from all sides. India, he said, stands firmly with the UAE and supports peaceful solutions through sustained dialogue.
The attack marks a significant escalation, coming shortly after a fragile ceasefire had taken effect in early April. It is also seen as one of the first direct strikes by Iran on United Arab Emirates territory in recent weeks, raising concerns about a broader regional fallout.
With tensions continuing to simmer, India’s response underscores its dual focus on safeguarding its citizens abroad and advocating for stability in a region crucial to global trade and energy supply.
