PORVORIM: Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho today informed the House that TATA wants to set up industry in Goa.
MLA Vijai Sardesai had questioned the state government on the status of investment, task force and industries set up in Goa under the new policy.
“TATA wants to set up industry in Goa. In fact, no one is aware that TATA manufactures some of the sophisticated machines in Goa’ said Godinho.
He further said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will form a task force to interact with industry under the new industrial policy.
Godinho stated the IPB is approving clean and non-polluting industrial units.
“Some companies with foreign collaboration are eager to set up their units in the state. In Goa, we do not encourage or allow polluting industries. Only green industries are welcome,” maintained Godinho.
He said the Goa industrial growth and investment promotion policy 2022 will be amended to ensure that new industries employ locals across all sectors after giving them proper training.
IPB’s 32nd meeting was held in February this year where six projects were cleared with a proposed investment of `310 crore and employment potential of 2,450 jobs.
In January this year, the government revealed that 8,450 new jobs had been created in the state since 2017 from projects approved by the IPB.
In all, 236 projects were approved having an employment potential of 46,191 jobs.
