PONDA: Tense situation prevailed at Undir with villagers opposing Sewerage Treatment Plant demanded Mamlatdar to show demarcation of 109 trees that would be cut for setting up 15 MLD STP.
Undir-Ponda villagers led by Mukund Naik today gathered and opposed landfilling for proposed 15 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plant.
The locals also called public meeting on September 3 and villagers warned to approach Supreme Court.
The villagers said the project is forced on them and they oppose the same as they fear flooding in monsoon if project is completed.
Further they say, it would difficult to stay in houses due to stench smell out of STP.
The villagers said 34000 square meters land acquired for STP and thousands of trees located in that land but sewerage officials shows NGT has given permission to cut 109 trees which are not demarcated.
“How the project is possible by cutting just 109 trees should be explained by government? villagers questioned.
They blamed power Minister for forcing project at Undir.
The locals said government including chief Minister Pramod Sawant and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral visit the spot and take them into confidence.
The Undir locals are launching agitation under banner of “Undir Sarakshan Manch. It’s convenor Mukund Naik said it’s seven year they are opposing the STP.
