New Delhi: Fresh details have emerged in the investigation into the recovery of explosive materials along the route linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Bengaluru for the 45th anniversary celebrations of the Art of Living Foundation near Kanakapura Road.
During security sanitisation operations ahead of the Prime Minister’s movement, police recovered a cardboard box containing gelatin sticks along with batteries, wires and a suspected circuit-like setup. The discovery has raised concerns among investigators, who are now examining whether there was an attempt to assemble an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Officials involved in the probe, however, have indicated that the materials recovered were not in a functional state capable of causing an immediate explosion. Investigators are now exploring the possibility that the objective may have been to create panic or disrupt the Prime Minister’s programme rather than execute a blast.
The incident gained further significance after a threat call was made to the Koramangala Police Station on the day of the event. The caller allegedly warned of explosions near HAL airport and the Art of Living Ashram, prompting authorities to intensify security measures at both locations.
Police later traced and detained the individual linked to the threat call soon after the alert was issued. Investigators subsequently searched the caller’s residence, though no direct connection has yet been established between the person and the explosive materials recovered near the convoy route.
The discovery of the gelatin sticks and suspected circuitry has nevertheless prompted a wider security review. Karnataka Police are continuing the primary investigation, while central agencies are also closely monitoring developments in the case.
Sources indicate that the National Investigation Agency is externally examining the matter as part of broader security assessments. However, officials have not confirmed the presence of any larger terror conspiracy at this stage.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to analyse the recovered materials, verify possible motives and determine whether additional individuals may have been involved in the incident.
