PANAJI: Water woes of North Goa, specially Porvorim area are likely to end in a day or two with the release of water in the two Tillari canals.
The water supply coming from the Tillari to Goa through the two canals was stopped for repairs and annual maintenance works since November 27.
The work has been completed and water will be released in the canals by 12 noon tomorrow, informed WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar.
“The work was completed early morning yesterday By 12 noon tomorrow, water will be released in the canal and it is likely to reach Goa by 24th night or 25th morning,” informed the minister.
“With this, Porvorim plant can be started in 2 to 3 days time,” he added.
He further said that said that soil testing for construction of new dams is in process.
“Soil testing and other survey is ongoing. Total 6 dams of which 4 are in Sattari,” he added
The canals are around 30-year-old. The Maharashtra government had decided to take up the maintenance and repair work of the canal.

PANAJI: Crime Branch raided an online gambling den near Mapusa Municipal garden yesterday evening and arrested 7 persons.
Rs 3.93 lakh cash and two laptops, together worth Rs 4.35 lakh have been seized in the raid.
7 persons who were found gambling during the raid were arrested.
