SALIGAO: Barely a day after the Morjim murder case, another shocking double homicide has rocked North Goa, with two men found dead inside a rented house at Muddo-Wado, Saligao, on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Richard D’Mello and Abhishek Gupta. According to police, D’Mello had been residing in the rented premises, while the house owner lived nearby. When the landlord tried to contact D’Mello over a rent-related matter and received no response, he went to check on him. Finding the door locked, he peered through a window and was horrified to see two bodies lying in a pool of blood inside the room.
The Saligao Police, led by PI Milind Bhuimbar, rushed to the site, forced open the locked door, and discovered the bodies of D’Mello and Gupta with multiple injuries. DySP Vishwesh Karpe and North Goa SP Rahul Gupta were informed of the development. A dog squad was called to assist but failed to trace any leads at the scene. The bodies were later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for post-mortem examination.
While the motive remains unclear, preliminary inquiries suggest that D’Mello, a resident of Guirim, owned a music store near the Saligao panchayat where Gupta was employed. Investigators are exploring whether a former employee of the shop may be connected to the killings.
Incidentally, the deceased Richard D’Mello was the brother of Trajano D’Mello, State spokesperson of the All India Trinamool Congress. When contacted, Trajano said he was unaware of the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death, adding that he had not been in touch with Richard for over a month due to his own health condition.
Police have begun a thorough investigation into the case to ascertain the motive and identify those responsible for the gruesome crime.
