PANAJI: The Goa Legislative Assembly was informed on Monday by Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar that the administration has started a program to identify subterranean electrical cables.
This action seeks to expedite identification and guard against harm while excavation is underway.
“The government is now marking the subterranean electrical cables. Whether these utility lines are on the left or right side of the road, this marker will make it easier for us to locate them, according to Dhavalikar.
He emphasized that the substantial underground cabling work being done throughout the State makes this endeavour imperative.
Dhavalikar made his declaration in response to worries expressed by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, who brought attention to problems with the subterranean electricity wires in Margao that frequently experience faults.
Nearly 94 faults have been detected, according to Kamat, who also observed that these faults frequently happen when other departments construct roadways and unintentionally harm electricity connections.
In order to prevent damage to cables, Kamat advised that the government institute a system that requires other departments to acquire approval before beginning any excavating work. Additionally, he suggested having a junior engineer (JE) from the electricity department present throughout such activities.
He also suggested that the power department use local contractors to complete repairs more quickly because it takes a long time to find issues in subterranean lines, which is inconvenient for customers.
Dhavalikar responded by telling the House that qualified electrical contractors have historically fixed cable problems. The department has, nevertheless, recently acquired a van-mounted, single-phase, fully automated underground cable fault locator that is outfitted with Tan Delta and Partial Discharge technologies.
With this technology, it will be easier to identify problems with low-medium, and high-voltage power cables up to 33 kV and evaluate the state of subterranean cables.
