PANAJI: Balrath employees have announced today that they will stick to their earlier announcement of going on an indefinite strike.
State Education Dept had said that they have increased the salary of the drivers and the attendants by Rs 1,000.
With the rise, salary of driver would be Rs 12,000 and that of the attendant would be Rs 6,000. Expressing displeasure over the nominal hike, the employees have decided to go on strike from tomorrow over their demand for salary hike and regularisation.
Until last academic year, the balrath employees were paid for only ten months.
Zingade said that the schools would be paid one time installment of Rs 4.17 lakh as against the current assistance of Rs 3.66 lakh and that the grants will also keep changing by 5 per cent rise every year. “The institutions will have to pay to the employees from the grants received,” he said.
The director said that the grants for this academic year are yet to be released as the department is waiting for the notification to get published in the official gazette.
The Balrath employees under All Goa United Balrath Employees Union have given call for indefinite strike from Monday to meet their long pending demands including pay rise, regularization into services and benefits under ESI, PF and health insurance apart from other demands.
