New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations and claims circulating on social media regarding donation boxes associated with the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Ayodhya.
The decision comes after the Trust requested an independent inquiry into the matter, urging the state government to examine the allegations thoroughly and establish the facts.
According to an official statement, the SIT will comprise Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, Inspector General of Police Kiran S., and Special Secretary (Finance) Neel Ratan Kumar. The panel has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation and submitting its report to the government.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust recently wrote to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressing concern over rumours and allegations being circulated on social media regarding donation boxes installed at the Ram temple complex.
The Trust maintained that an impartial investigation was necessary to verify the authenticity of the claims and ensure transparency in the matter. It also alleged that the reports and allegations being spread online were aimed at tarnishing the image of the Trust and hurting the sentiments of devotees associated with the temple.
Taking note of the Trust’s request, the Uttar Pradesh government constituted the SIT with immediate effect.
Officials said the investigation team will examine all aspects of the allegations, including the origin and nature of the claims circulating on social media, before submitting its findings to the state government.
The development comes as the Ram temple in Ayodhya continues to attract lakhs of devotees from across the country, making transparency and public trust crucial for the management of donations and temple-related activities.
The government has not specified a timeline for the completion of the probe, but officials said the SIT would begin its inquiry at the earliest and carry out a detailed examination of all available evidence.
