VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar visited the site of a devastating LPG cylinder explosion in New Vaddem on Thursday morning, following an incident that left a mother and her daughter critically injured and caused extensive structural damage to their rented residence.
Expressing deep shock over the incident, Salkar assured the affected family that financial assistance would be arranged through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The assistance is expected to help cover the victims’ medical expenses and the cost of reconstructing the damaged property.
Both victims, who sustained critical burn and impact injuries, were shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, for specialised treatment. Salkar personally contacted senior doctors and hospital authorities, urging them to provide all necessary medical facilities and ensure round-the-clock monitoring to support their recovery.
Following his visit to the blast site, the MLA also directed the Fire and Emergency Services to initiate immediate preventive measures across the constituency to avert similar incidents.
He instructed officials to conduct strict safety inspections of commercial establishments and shops that store or use LPG cylinders. The inspections will focus on ensuring adequate ventilation, proper exhaust systems and compliance with prescribed safety standards to prevent gas accumulation.
Salkar stressed that strict action must be taken against establishments found violating safety regulations, emphasising the need for stronger enforcement and preventive measures to protect public safety and prevent such tragedies in the future.
