PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has backed the Next-Generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, highlighting their focus on improving ease of doing business through simplified compliance, technology-driven processes and a trust-based tax administration.
Sawant attended the 57th meeting of the GST Council, chaired by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, state finance ministers and senior officials.
Sharing his views on the meeting, Sawant said the outcomes of the discussions carry forward the Next-Gen GST reform agenda, with a clear emphasis on making the tax framework more efficient and business-friendly.
The reform approach focuses on key areas, including enforcement, compliance and tax credit, while promoting greater use of technology in GST administration. The objective is to reduce compliance-related difficulties and allow businesses to devote greater attention to expansion and growth.
The discussions also underline the importance of building a tax system based on trust between taxpayers and the administration, while maintaining effective enforcement and ensuring compliance with GST provisions.
Sawant described the developments as another step towards strengthening ease of doing business, with reforms aimed at supporting enterprises and improving the overall efficiency of the GST framework.
The GST Council brings together representatives of the Centre and state governments to deliberate on policy decisions and changes concerning the indirect tax regime.
