VELSAO: The erosion-damaged beach circle at Velsao has been restored and beautified by the Velsao Panchayat with support from Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The revamped beachfront landmark was welcomed by local residents and members of the fishing community, who praised the initiative and called on more industries operating in Cortalim and the Verna industrial belt to contribute towards village infrastructure and community welfare projects through CSR funding.
Speaking at the event, PPL Unit Head Suresh Pramanik said the company considered Velsao its neighbouring community and aimed to ensure that both the village and the company grow together.
He also stated that the company intends to support future initiatives related to health, hygiene and community welfare in the village.
Velsao Sarpanch Diana Gouveia appealed to industries to continue extending support to the village and work closely with the newly elected panchayat body in taking forward development projects.
Congress leader Orville Dourado said the relationship between Velsao residents and PPL had seen a positive shift after a Goan recently took over a senior leadership role in the company.
Fishermen leader Olencio Simoes urged other industries and corporate firms to step forward and support local village development initiatives, particularly in coastal communities.
