Virat Kohli celebrated Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) first Indian Premier League (IPL) title win in 2025, expressing gratitude to fans and reflecting on his 18-year journey.
New Delhi: Virat Kohli expressed deep emotions after leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2025, marking the end of an 18-year journey filled with challenges and near misses. Taking to Instagram, Kohli thanked the team and fans for their unwavering support, saying, “This team made the dream possible, a season I’ll never ever forget. This one is for the fans of RCB who never ever left our side in the worst of times. This one is for all the years of heartbreaks and disappointment.” He added that lifting the IPL trophy after nearly two decades was “absolutely worth the wait.”
Kohli, who has been part of every RCB campaign since the IPL’s inception in 2008, acknowledged the significance of the victory but also shared his enduring love for Test cricket. After RCB’s six-run win over Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad, he described the triumph as “five levels below Test cricket,” urging young cricketers to dedicate themselves to the longest format to earn true respect in the sport.
The 36-year-old captain, who was visibly emotional after the final ball, reflected on the personal sacrifices made for the team. “I’ve given this team my youth, my prime, my experience. I gave it everything I have. I never thought this day would come,” he said.
Throughout the season, Kohli was instrumental in RCB’s success, amassing 657 runs with eight half-centuries in 15 innings, often anchoring the batting lineup. As he hinted at nearing the twilight of his career, Kohli said, “I have an opportunity to play this game for only a few more years… And by the time I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had.”
With this long-awaited IPL title now secured, Kohli’s journey stands as a testament to resilience, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
