CALANGUTE: Calangute’s independent candidate Ricardo D’Souza claims to have strong support of the people and have urged people wisely on the basis of the work and charity done by the candidates in the past. D’Souza also promised to back the political party if elected, only by consulting his constituency people.
Ricardo D’Souza, co-owner of Tito’s club and an independent candidate from Calangute constituency said he he had to contest election since he found no candidate who could fulfill his vision in Calangute constituency. There are candidates in Calangute, one wants to take us back to 18th century, another doesn’t want to give shops, hotels, apartments etc to the people of Calangute.
When asked whether he will take support from the political parties, D’Souza replied in negative and added that he won’t take political support from the parties for a simple reason that if he does that then he won’t be able to fulfill the aspirations of the people as the political parties have their agendas. I do not have any agenda.
Political parties are indulged in distributing money to the people one party is distributing 3000, another outstantion party led by a Women is giving 1000 and other old parties are giving 2000 to people, whose money is this? D’Souza questioned. He pointed out that people should have been given apartments, shops, business etc which they are not doing.
“People who laugh out about the free apartments concept are either common people who are ignorant about it or the ones who have nefarious intentions. Since people don’t have option to chose between these, hence I am contesting in Calangute”D’Souza stated.
When asked more, Dsouza said that by increasing FAR we could do vertical development by keeping the space for the rainwater, trees, animals etc. Citing some examples of developed places like Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai etc, Ricardo said if these countries could do it then why not India?, He questioned.
When asked about his absence from campaigning, Ricardo said that these few candidates, politicians come at the door steps for their interest, have they ever came at people’s doorstep in last five years? When there is a CoVid19 infection spreading, why are they going door to door? I am personally against door to door campaigning since this way liquor, money is being covertly distributed and even muscle power also plays a role. It is more important to keep our family’s health safe at this moment.
When questioned how is he going to reach out to people if he doesn’t go door to door campaigning, D’Souza said that he will use the mainstream media and the social media platforms to connect with the people.
When asked which party will he support if elected, Ricardo replied stating that he will support the people and will go ahead with the people’s decision. Whichever party his constituency people will ask him to support he will listen to that.
When questioned about the allegations made against him that he has been planted to divide votes, Ricardo replied in negative and said that he is supported by the people and not by any political party. He said he will have to stand up for the people of Calangute and support them. Ricardo also urged people to judge him on the basis of the charity, work and support he has given to the people in the past and also compare it with the other candidates and only then vote.
