CANACONA – The voting pattern in Canacona is by and large peaceful on Wednesday.
There were no untoward incidents except after a minor scuffle over parking/stationing of vehicles very close to one of the polling stations in Agonda, which invited the attention of the Sector Officer, who immediately directed police to enforce traffic discipline and not allow the vehicle’s inside the compound of the polling station.
Interestingly, a large number of voters have turned up to cast their votes at the Marlim-Tirval booth, where about 377 voters of Poinguinim ward no.1 have initially decided to boycott panchayat polls. Canacona Mamlatdar/Returning Officer Manoj Korgaonkar, alongwith Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar, had finally convinced the ward one voters hailing from Chiplem, Tirvonn, Badegal, Khalshi and Kharegal who not only agreed to vote but also turned up at the polling station on Wednesday.
Incidentally, long queues were witnessed only during the first two hours in many of the booths having over 500 voters, while overall, it was a smooth walk-in in most of the booths.
While, police presence was felt in every polling station, Sector officers were seen taking rounds in turn visiting and collecting the information/reports
